Find Rooms in a Workspace
Use the Rooms directory to find and access rooms in your workspace. Workspace members can view rooms they’ve been added to, while workspace admins can view all rooms.
Who can use the Rooms directory
All workspace members and workspace admins can access the Rooms directory.
The rooms you see depend on your permissions and the room’s visibility settings. Workspace admins can see all rooms in the workspace. Workspace members can only see rooms they have been added to.
How to find rooms in the Rooms directory
- In the navigation tabs (on the left on web, on the bottom on mobile), click Workspaces > [Workspace name].
- Click Rooms.
- Select a room from the list.
The Rooms directory displays the rooms you can access in that workspace.
How to search for a room in the Rooms directory
- In the navigation tabs (on the left on web, on the bottom on mobile), click Workspaces > [Workspace name].
- Click Rooms.
- Click Find room and type part of the room name.
The list narrows to the matching rooms. The search covers every room you can access in the workspace, not only the rooms already shown on screen.
How to sort the Rooms directory by name or member count
Click the Name or Members column header to sort the Rooms directory by that column. Click the same column header again to switch between ascending and descending order.
How more rooms load in the Rooms directory
The Rooms directory loads the first group of rooms when you open it, then loads the next group automatically as you scroll to the bottom of the list. A loading spinner appears at the bottom of the list while the next group loads.
Searching or sorting restarts the list from the first group of results.
What happens after you open a room from the Rooms directory
What happens when you select a room depends on your role:
- Workspace admins open the room details page, where they can click Go to room to open the conversation, or manage room settings and membership.
- Workspace members open the room conversation directly.
Opening a room from the Rooms directory does not automatically join you to the room.

Why can’t I see a room in the Rooms directory?
Workspace members can only see rooms they have been added to. If you can’t see a room, ask a workspace admin to confirm that you’ve been added to it.
Does opening a room from the Rooms directory join me to the room?
No. Opening a room from the Rooms directory does not automatically join you to the room.
Why do only some of my rooms appear when I open the Rooms directory?
The Rooms directory loads rooms in groups. Scroll to the bottom of the list to load the next group, or use Find room to jump straight to the room you need.
Why does the Rooms directory look different for other members?
The Rooms directory only shows rooms a member is allowed to access, based on their permissions and the room’s visibility settings.
